I first came across the Cloud Nine straightening iron whilst at a swanky Manchester salon at least two years ago. At that time I made a mental note to do some research and consider these should my GHDs ever pack up. Whilst my GHDs are still going strong, I feel like they leave my hair frazzled and dry because my hair just doesn't need quite that much heat. I was fortunate enough to be sent this iron recently and its been a pleasure to try out.
The number one difference between these and other irons on the market is the temperature control (ranging from 100 to 200+) giving you complete flexibility over styling. Aside from this, the black ceramic plates apparently contain a 'mysterious ingredient' to give extra shine. I have no clue what that ingredient is but they sure do make my hair shiny - major plus!
The enclosed instruction booklet has proved super useful - giving hints on what temperature to use depending on your objectives and hair type. By following the manual (and peeking at a few online videos) I had a lot of success using these to create soft curls and found the shape of the barrel perfect for this. On the whole I've found I don't need to go higher than 150 degrees for any of the styles I've tried. This makes me happy - less heat has to be better for my hair, right?!
My iron came with a faux leather cream case (retail price for the kit is £129.95) and this was the only aspect that left me disappointed. The case is just too big and bulky that I can't see how it could be useful - I personally wouldn't take it along on a trip away and it's even too big just sitting in my bedroom! I'd like to see a protective storage case that matches the sleek and compact design of the iron.
Overall, these irons outshine all previous irons I've used in terms of quality and effect. Sure, they're pricey but it's an investment worth making when you use them often and there's a 2 years guarantee for peace of mind.

ReplyDeleteOooh, I want! Also, I got that exact same comment (above) on my latest post... I thought I had my first real blog hater but maybe it's just a spambot ;)
ReplyDeleteI really love your reviews, I've found some great new stuff through them x
Smells of Spam to me! Lol. Just about to delete it :)
DeleteI've had these for a couple of years, as my hairdresser reccomended them! I think they are much better than GHD's (I think it's from the same guy who originally designed the GHD's anyway) but the temp aspect really makes a difference. They have lasted me well also!
ReplyDeleteSuzi x
I love their styling wand and their amazing roller tube kinda thing that warms them up in 5 seconds!

I've had these for a while, I do prefer them to GHDs but need to remember to try them on a lower setting, I usually heat them to 200 which I'm sure isn't necessary for my hair.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how they listed it as "a mysterious ingredient" rather than actually telling you what it is. It's like KFC's special sauce!
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to give this a go. I couldn't imagine anyone's hair needing 200 degrees but it's nice to have the option.
Do they do mini sizes?
Also, I found your blog just then through some heavy duty linkage and I'm so happy to have stumbled across it. I love how you write and the subjects you choose to write about. Your posts are so, well, readable!
Looking forward to many a good post in the future,
Courtney
Such A Beautiful Sight
Thank you for being so kind - glad you found me! They do a mini size, although it doesn't have the temperature control x
DeleteHmm...that's a little odd. I wonder what the temperature is fixed to? I may have to look into it. I've been searching for a good mini to go travelling with.
DeleteThanks for the info.
Oh, and you're welcome!
Here's the link Courtney - there's no mention of the temperature...
