Shopping for new foundation blows my mind. I honestly despair of it and that's why I've stuck with Bobbi Brown Natural Finish for three bottles worth. I highly rate that foundation but fancied giving something else a shot, you know, in case I happen to be missing out on something even better, that'll change my life.
I've heard lots of great feedback about Double Wear and Estee Lauder are clever people - they actually allow you to take away a 7 day sample to try at home. Clever. So many counters don't do this and consequently, they've lost my business. Estee Lauder had a pretty sweet deal on recently - a free foundation brush and miniature bottle of their hugely popular serum with every foundation purchase. I couldn't resist.
This does exactly what it says on the tin. It does not budge; not one iota. I've never used a foundation which doesn't need some kind of touch up (with pressed powder) at several points throughout the day. I can apply this at 8am and have it look pretty much the same at 6pm with minimal oil or shine showing through. It's a super heavy formulation so I just use a minimal amount to get my usual finish.

Positives: loads of shades to choose from, stays in place all day without touch ups, buildable, will last ages (and therefore represents outstanding value for money) based on the tiny blob I need to use each day, covers any and all imperfections, full coverage but still looks natural once you get the hang of application.
Negatives: If you apply even just slightly too much it feels stiff and mask like on the face, requires extra cleansing to fully remove (I believe it will cause breakouts if you aren't meticulous over removal each night), must blend quickly as it sets really fast, bottle does not have a pump.
What's your experience of Double Wear? What cleanser do you use for removal? I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts!
I would love to try this, but I fear it will break me out, as even my BB cream did :( This makes me pretty sad because I'd love a foundation that lasted allll day. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got a great deal too, the brush looks very nice :)

Heard lots of wonderful things, but I've also heard it gives you a 'ghost' face when flash photography is used..?? That true?
ReplyDelete@Emma - I heard that too - haven't actually snapped any pictures yet! I'll let you know when I do! x
ReplyDeleteI've never really got on with this foundation as it feels too heavy for me, also hate how it photographs, however I like it for covering up my breakouts with a different foundation on my 'better' skin.
ReplyDeleteI think Liz Earle cleanse and polish does a good job at getting this off :) ♥
That's such a good offer! I've had two samples of Double Wear and really liked them, although I never ended up buying a whole bottle for some reason :s I won't be buying it for a while either as I have too many half used foundations that I NEED to finish up xx
ReplyDeletei've heard so many good things about this foundation, you did a great review! really want to try it now :) x
ReplyDeleteHi Sofia! Where is this offer and how much does it cost? Thank you x
ReplyDeleteThis is my all time favourite foundation, love, love love the results it gives x
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried this one, would be interesting to try:)
ReplyDeleteI've been using DW for about a month or two now and I love it. Agree with pretty much everything you've said, I'd recommend getting one of the MAC pumps for £3-it fits perfectly and means no wasting!
ReplyDeleteI just use a Johnson's makeup wipe first then a Simple cleanser in the same way as the Liz Earle C+P with a hot wet flannel to remove. And repeat twice to make sure I'm squeaky clean! I have heard if you don't get rid of it all then it can lead to break outs.x
I wear Double Wear Light, on my third tube now which is unheard of for me! I love it - lasts all day but feels more natural than double wear!
ReplyDeleteI was persuaded by the girl at the Estee Lauder counter to buy the 'Take it Away' Total Makeup Remover - and I am so glad i did - its amazing! Two pumps on a cotton wool pad takes it all off, leaving your skin feeling clean and clear! Bottle costs £20 but I've not bought a new one since my first tube of foundation and i'm on my third now - lasts ages!
I wore Double Wear when I had super bad acne scarring (layered the stuff on!), but I'm a big fan of the Double Wear Light now. This does what it says on the tin, as has the same no-budge power, without feeling quite so much like you're wearing a mask. I would thoroughly recommend!

Hm I actually really like the look of this foundation. I don't have amazing skin so heavy coverage is exactly what I need! Thanks so much for reviewing this, I'm definitely going to check it out.

I love this stuff! I can't say that it causes more breakouts than normal (I already had pretty bad acne) but this really covers it up. I'm also super pale and was able to find a color match (Bone). I agree that it's heavy ,so I don't use it every day. I originally got it for a wedding and it did the job perfectly. (it didn't wash out my face for pictures). And I use Estee Lauder's Take it Away makeup remover towelettes because it can be pretty hard to wash off. I actually thought it looked better/more settled in throughout the day and I've never had a foundation do that.
ReplyDeleteI really didn't find it to photograph too badly, though I've always lightly brushed Lancome poudre over the top, just for good measures!
ReplyDeleteI stopped using it in the end just because of how cakey it looked and I was concious this was obvious in the sun - I switched to the light formula and although my skin doesn't look flawless, it looks much more natural and I love it!
To remove, Bioderma crealine DEFINITELY! Best stuff ever for heavy make up!!

I've been using Doublewear for a few years now and can't find anything as good! The only thing I don't like about it is the dreaded ghost face. Because of the SPF, whenever your photo gets taken with flash your face looks chalk white. I mix a bit of Revlon Photoready in whenever I'm heading out where there will be camera flashes. It doesn't give me breakouts but I don't think it helps my dry skin. I remove what's visable with a face wipe and then follow by washing with the Angels on Bare Skin cleanser from Lush and that does the job. You can buy a pump from Mac - obviously designed for their own foundation - that fits the bottle for about £2.50.
ReplyDeleteI've never used that foundation. Have you tried applying it with a sponge of some kind like the Beauty Blender or the comparable one from Sonia Kashuk? I'd be curious if it is easier to blend in then.
ReplyDeleteKindness is the best accessory,

i used double wear for years, and it is good. but i decided it felt like i was just caked in make up all the time. i've recently moved to lancome teint and i recently bought the make up forever HD foundation which i love. they just glide over your skin. x
ReplyDeleteI did try this foundation but it left my skin v dry & flaky - was gutted it didn't suit me :(
ReplyDeleteI love Double Wear and it's so good to wear on a night out because it lasts but it's really hard to shift when cleansing and after a while I found that it left my skin feeling dry, flaky and tight. Another problem I found with it is that I am in-between colours meaning one shade was too light and the next was too dark. I usually opt for other foundations but jump back to this whenever I want all day coverage. The foundation is really good for covering blemishes and hiding dark circles, it definitely does what it says on the bottle. It's industrial!
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot about this foundation, but I've never tried it before. Since it gives such heavy coverage I can imagine it might feel like a mask, such a shame. Otherwise I'd love to try it out :) Love your blog by the way <3

I've never tried this foundation simply because I have found one that seems to be ok and have stuck with it. I always want to try more foundations but I get worried that they won't look as good as the one I have already, I have really dry skin too and even after loads of moisturising some still look flakey on. Maybe I should try this one though.

I like to use a cleansing oil and muslin cloth to remove when I get home from work, then my normal face wash before bed and I've not experienced any breakouts (and I am prone!). Double wear light is the better of the two I think, and it comes in a squeezy tube rather than the bottle of Double wear.
ReplyDeleteFrom where have you bought it with the free foundation brush? I have bought it this month but I did not receive the brush. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI've used MAC Foundation for 5 years and I, like yourself, don't like the hassle of finding a foundation. However, I bought this foundation after seeing so many rave reviews on here and I'm so glad I did! I've actually noticed my skin hasn't broken out as much as I did with MAC but I totally agree when it comes to removing, it can be a little bit stubborn but it's way worth the price tag. The little mini foundation brush is adorable! You should review the night serum, I'm really curious as to what it's like!
ReplyDeleteThis is my absolute favorite foundation. I need to get a new bottle - only because mine lasted two years and is now expired. That's a great deal with the foundation brush, they are quite a bit of money on their own. I wish that was still going on now!
