Hallway Project Featuring Ikea Rast:

It's your last chance to win a Sigma Face Kit - submit your entry here! In other news: Dorothy Perkins just launched VIP week, so that's a massive 25% off everything online. Enter DPVIPD at the checkout. Likewise, Missguided listed a massive sale today. Definitely worth a look :)

Those of you who've been reading for a while might remember when this Ikea Rast chest of drawers popped up amongst a Things I Love Thursday post? It was a surprise 'gift' from my boyfriend. Jack had recently moved in to my flat and was getting a touch annoyed by the array of products and hair tools that would lay across the hallway floor after I used the mirror that hangs there. In desperate need of extra storage he thought this might be the answer.

As it stood it was plain and boxy. I instantly loved that it fit perfectly between the front door (on the right) and living room door (left) but knew that it needed a touch of paint to lighten things up. 45 minutes and two coats of matt white emulsion later and here's what I came up with:

It still looks boxy and let's face it it's never going to look anything more than an inexpensive Ikea piece, but it's a quick fix for us and has certainly alleviated Jack's OCD (joke!). Search 'Ikea Rast' on Google Images and you'll find tons of far more creative ideas.

I store pretty much all my make-up within the top two drawers. The bottom houses a hairdryer, GHDs, curling tong and a selection of brushes. Skincare and bathroom related products are stored within my Godmorgon cabinet.

To the top you'll see a cherry blossom flower arrangement from M&S which Jack surprised me with after I wrote that post. I think it's amazing! I know it won't be to everyone's taste but I love how bright it is and how well the blue jug compliments the pink. It's fun and a bit quirky.

I'm currently storing my day to day jewellery (studs, rings, small dangly earrings) in this ceramic egg tray which sits on top of the chest. I saw this idea here. It's working out well. Now that I can actually see what jewellery I have, I'm wearing it more. To the left of the image below you can see the wall mounted mirror where I style my hair and check my outfit. To have my jewellery and daily essentials so handy has made the hallway a dressing up area of sorts. This is a huge improvement over the space before, which had little purpose other than a walk through. Can you tell that I'm pretty easily pleased? Simple pleasures huh.

And just because, here's a little sneak peak in to the living room. Check out that sunshine streaming through. Manchester is currently blessed with some pretty outstanding weather. Let's hope it lasts! The canvas on the wall is the view from the Empire State Building, New York - one of the most amazing views I ever experienced.

What now? Leave me a comment and tell me what organisational/home interior ideas you've got planned for your own home! Anyone bought something cool and functional from Ikea recently? Happy Friday everyone... I'm off out to Pizza Express for pasta and red wine. Does life get any better?! xoxo

  24. I love the egg tray idea! They have a similar one at Oliver Bonas and I always thought that it was lovely but didn't know what to do with it. Thanks for the inspiration. For my future house I think I'd like something classy and cosy. Not too modern and not too much like a family house if that makes sense. I've got some pictures of my room on my blog and that's the idea I want to built my home around if you want to check it out at http://elle-yeah.blogspot.com. x
