Wrist Tattoos

A girl I work with has tattoo sleeves covering each arm. They're not quite finished yet but they are, quite literally, a work of art. It got me contemplating tattoos again. I always gravitate towards wrist tattoos. Something about the delicate skin on the inside of the wrist and the harsh contrast of dark ink makes an interesting pairing. Some I'm currently loving...

  1. I have a bird on my right wrist and I love it. I have three tattoos, only small ones and I don't regret any of them. Two of them I just chose in the tattooist and may not be what I'd choose today, but they still have a meaning and remind me of a certain time in my life. I plan to have more when I can afford it :)

  2. I like them, but everyone I know that's older says they regret them. I don't know. They're cool.

  3. I have a tiny heart on my right foot, and I'll get a second one on my ribs (a phrase which I love) soon!!
I regret nothing in general, so I'm really happy with the one I have.
    Happy weekend!

  4. I have a tattoo, on my wrist, a bow. I love it. Sometimes I wish I had something daintier but alas I still love it xx

  5. I have four tattoos - a patchwork swallow on each forearm, an anchor and rose on my right side and a snowflake on my left inner hip. I'm hopefully going to be getting atleast one sleeve up to my swallow, but no further than that.
I love all of my tattoos, but funnily enough my favourite is the only one that doesn't have any specific meaning, the snowflake, and I only got it because it was a handpoke (done without machine) for a tenner!

I do think that everyone should have atleast one tattoo but obviously it just depends on what you're going to feel comfortable with at the end of the day x

  6. I love wrist tattoos :)
I don't have any yet, but I think that'd be the place I'd most consider getting one, either with a bird or something love themed x

  9. I have a music note tattooed behind one of my ears. It holds good memories and I can't imagine I'd ever end up regretting it. And if I do, well, I can't see it anyway! It's fairly easy to keep hidden where it is as well.

  10. Oh those are definitely adorable! I have a wrist tattoo myself. It says Love with a star next to it. I recently did a post involving it here: http://electricdaze.blogspot.com/2011/02/be-mine.html

  13. I really like wrist tattoos. I have a design all drawn up that I adore and if I get it done it'll be on the side of my wrist but I'm not sure i ever will. Maybe one day. xo

  14. I have 3 at the moment but definitely want more. One on covering my right foot, one down the side of my torso on the right and another on the left.

Before I had my first one I thought about it for a year and half to make sure I wouldn't regret it, and the image never changed so I knew it was right. I like that all mine can be hidden.

    Just think long and hard.

  15. Ive always wanted a little personal tattoo there, but ive never worked out a design i actually wanted, same as wanting one of the side of my body.
when i figure it out i'll get one!
one of those looks like ellie goulding, third from bottom i think? is it?

I've got a star on the right side of my chest that I got myself for my 20th birthday, and for my 25th birthday I want to get cupcakes on my foot/ankle :)

  17. I have several tattoos, a rose on my hip, a design on my foot that I created myself and a gorgeous little abstract design on my wrist. I love wrist tattoos, want another one on my other wrist now!

  18. I have two wrist tattoos and eight total. My two wrist tattoos: on the right hand is a moon and star. The left wrist is a Dylan Thomas quote. I'm going to get "Expecto Patronum" put under the moon and star soon. :)

I love all of my tattoos.

  19. I love seeing people's tattoos and hearing their stories, but I don't think I would ever get a tattoo. The pain sounds too awful (low tolerance for pain) and I would never be able to decide (most indecisive person in the world)!

  20. I have a star on my left wrist! I love it! I never wanted anything that was to big incase I grew fed up of it. But I can honestly say I don't think I'll ever dislike mine! x

  21. I'm contemplating a wrist tattoo as well- all the websites out there provide such marvellous inspiration it has to be said. I'm thinking of getting 3 swallows on the side of my wrist, when I have enough money to afford it! xx

  23. Loveloveloveeeeee the perched birds, this has full on reignited my tattoo urge.

I've got 3 tattoos at the moment - song lyrics up my side, the backs of my thighs and a key on my chest and I can't ever imagine regretting them.

You just need to prepare yourself for other people's opinions - I've had so many strangers come up and tell me exactly what they think of my tattoos (good and bad) far more openly than if they were commenting on my clothes, make up, etc... it takes some getting used to :)

  24. I'm loving these tattoos :)
I have 2 at the moment, a dolphin on my shoulder blade, wish it was a bit smaller but I don't regret it and my other is a black heart design at the bottom of my back.
Currently planning my next one I hope to get this year :)

  25. I've got a few - and some of them are wrist tattoos! On my left wrist I have a heart with 'mum' on it and on my right, the same with 'dad'. Above my 'mum' heart is a portrait of my mum and I when I was a baby. I also have a pair of lips on the other side of my wrist, 'hope' written in runes on the top of the other, a filigree heart on my back and 'Grab Fate by the Throat' written on my chest - though I want to add lots more and make it a proper piece. I love them all and wish I could afford more! I don't regret any of them, but in EVERY shop I walk into I'm greeted with "what does your chest say?" "is that real?" and then a screwed up face when I inform them that, yes, it is real and tell them what it says. It gets tiresome feeling you're being judged and have to justify yourself but you need to have strength and faith in your own character and know that you got it for the right reason - to please yourself.

  28. I have a small sun on the top of my right foot, I've always wanted another one but they are pretty expensive and addictive! I'm probably one of the few people who just have the one.

But I still love mine, 5 years on. I like that it can be hidden. In my job absolutely no tattoos are allowed to be visible. So if you randomly decide a to go for a career change later in life, a wrist tattoo could make all the difference between yes and no.
If your sure that's not an issue, then go for it. I would LOVE a wrist tattoo. They just look so delicate..

  31. I've wanted a wrist tattoo for 2 years now. I know I want it to be my favourite drawing by my favourite artist kurt halsey but i'm too scared to get it done incase the tattooist doesn't manage to capture kurt's beautiful drawing style. i'm such a perfectionist and i'm terrified of letting someone else loose and having them permanently mark my skin. i know that they transfer the drawing onto your skin first, but the thought of it not being perfect scares me. :( xx

  33. I have 4 tattoo's, one on my wrist, one on my upper thigh, one on my foot and two I count as one below my neck on my back.

The one on my wrist is tattoo of the 'luvanmusiq' sign off Musiq Soulchild's album, I love all of my tattoos especially my wrist one, I think its great because it reminds me of my passion constantly.

Wrist tattoos are great especially if they hold an encouraging word or something important and unique to you.

I do not regret any of my tattoos because I make sure they are unique to me and my feelings. Your post has got me considering another one, their highly addictive! :)

  35. I have quite a few tattoos. And ironically, my first ever piece of blog 'hate' was about them! How they're so pretentious, apparently. Anywaaays, I have swallows on my chest, a loveheart locket and key and some writing on my forearm, an anchor on one leg, diamond on the other, and pocketwatch with tigerlillies around it on my side. I dont regret any of them, i feel like they are a part of me. Do you think you will take the plunge and get one too? You are a creative wee soul, I dont think you would regret it. Its a way of expressing ourselves :) xx

  37. I actually have 3 tattoos. One on my right ankle (Chinese symbol for "Love"), on on my left hip (hummingbird) and one on my lower back (tribal). The only one that I regret is the one on my lower back, but I got it 9 years ago (before they were called tramp stamps and looked down upon). I definitely wouldn't get that one today, but I don't mind it. Most days I forget it is even there.

I have actually considered getting a 4th one, on the inside of my right wrist, but have hesitated because many tattoo artists here are hesitant to do it there due to the sensitive location.

I love tattoos that are tastefully done and that have meaning to the person.

  38. I have about twenty or so different tattoos, some small some very large pieces of work and to be honest my wrist one hurt more than any of the other ones-even the ones where I had several hours and multiple sessions. I think it's because the skin around my wrist is incredibly sensitive, thin and quite delicate. I have my upper chest tattooed and people always ask if it hurt and I say no, but my wrist hurt like a mother.

  40. I only have one at the moment, its on the inside of my arm. I don't regret it at all it makes me smile and laugh when i see it which is often what you need in life. My tattoo is of Chibi totoro from 'my neighbour totoro'(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/moonpiglet/chibi.jpg). I get asked if it's real all the time which is pretty funny.

  41. Great feature and some really great, inspiring pictures. I always love the different fonts people can get! I have a tattoo on my right foot in memory of my Dad who lost his 3 year battle with cancer just over a year ago now.
It's a section of a poem he wrote about Remembrance Day. And oh my god it hurt! Especially right on top of the bone at the top of my foot.

  43. I love the look of tattoss. And recently, I have noticed the appearence of wrist tattoos. They look beautiful and elegant. But I for one would never get a tattoo, mainly because I'm so fickle. I colour my hair, then regret it, then dye it back, and so on. Although, the only thing I've ever been happy with is my lip piercing. And what I love about it is that I know that if I get bored, I can just take it out and it will heal up. Unlike tattoos which will always be there, unless you want to go through surgery. xx

  51. I have a tattoo, I got it with a couple of friends when we were on hockey tour in Aus. I kinda got it due to pressure from them because they were wanting one.. at first I had no idea what I wanted but in the end I went for a little paw print next to my hip. I've been through stages of loving it and then regretting it.. but after a while you forget it's there. I really like it again now though :) It's cute.

I'd say have a really long think about it and maybe get the tattoo artist to draw it in the place you'd like it and leave it for a couple of days. If you then decide you think it looks good there then go for it. But the worst scenario is getting a tattoo in an obv. place and then not liking it. My friend got a chinese character in the same place as me, it stands for tiger and after a couple of weeks she was like... wtf?? why did I get a tat saying tiger?? haha quite funny. She's wanting it removed now though.

Sorry for the long comment. I just thought I'd give you my honest thoughts on it all :) xxx

  52. Great Post, I have 3 Tattoos A star on my wrist which I love Love, My first Tattoo Is a tribal sign on my lower back If I'm honest I rushed into it I don't regret getting it but I regret what I got Luckily I can't see it but not too long ago I saw a picture of it and all I could see was 2 dinosaurs head butting each other not good! My 3rd is another star on my ankle that one is a friendship tattoo I got with two friends! TIP don't get a friendship tattoo with a friend you've known since you were 5 years old when 4 years after you get then she dumps you for a bloke she has only known 6 months I don't regret getting it just who I got it with!!!

Just Be sure of what you want and NEVER NEVER get a blokes name unless he is you brother, son or Dad.

  56. I don't have any tattoos, but I think delicate ones are lovely. If I got a tattoo, it would probably be either on my wrist or my ankle..probably a tiny bird, swirly design...maybe an anchor or a word. I would never get something permanent on my body unless I was positive about that, though!

  57. i love tattoos. but not all tattoos are cool/good. it always depends i guess.
i have 2 tattoos. 1 on my back (blue, pink, green stars) and 1 wrapped around my forearm (life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you'll get - but i got it in spanish)
i do not regret one single tattoo. but you have to think about it very carefully IMO.

  60. I would never get a tatoo out of fear that I'm so indecisive and I would just change my mind day after I got it! But I DID think about getting one once, and it would be either on my wrist like the pictures (love the birds tattoo!) or on the ankle, and it would be a word in Hebrew saying 'his' :)

I have struggled with self injury, so this tattoo will my my constant reminder that hope is real and always here.

  68. If I were allowed to have tattoos, I would most definitely have one on my wrist. As soon as I move out, I'm getting 'a la mode' tattooed on my right wrist, and a green seahorse on my left in memory of my aunt.

I do already have two though, that I have kept hidden from my parents for years. I have a hummingbird on my lower stomach in memory of my grandparents. It's a Sailor Jerry style hummingbird, so that part of it is in memory of my grandfather who was a Navy Seal. Hummingbirds were my grandmother's favorite animal, so the bird is for her. I also have 'forget me not' in cursive white ink across my lower right side. It is so beautifully done, and the white ink makes it so delicate. I am most definitely a tattoo lover, and have big plans to get many more!

  69. I have matching tattoo's on both my feet with flowers, then I have my mum's favourite flower on my left arm next to my wrist bone. I don't regret either, but with my feet I wish I had waited and research a tattoo 'artist' rather than just a tattooist. xx

  70. I have the words Femme(on my right) Fetale(on my left) wrists, along with a couple other tattoos that I got on my chest something like 10 years ago. I love my tats on my wrists.. it was painful, but worth it. I have a large piece that will be covering the other tattoos on my chest planned out for one day. It's not that I regret them, it's just that I didn't put a lot of thought into what I was doing when I got them. I will never cover my wrist tattoos though. :)

  76. I have a peace sign on my wrist, that was meant to be smaller but I don't regret it and I kind of love it's imperfections. I have another on my inner arm, below my elbow that says "flawed if not free" (rilo kiley lyric) with a daisy. I'm looking into getting an anchor - I love them!

  77. I have a prayer that is tattooed from the center of my neck, down my entire spine and ends just above the jean line. I love it. I believe that it is there for the lifting of my spirit when i need it most, that it is elegant and shows my faith. I may not be a religious person but my faith is ever strong. I don't think I'll ever regret it, I thought long and hard about it. It's only meant for me and if others simply don't like it, I understand but it's a part of who i am. It's my artifact.

  80. Honestly, there's nothing interesting, intriguing, or beautiful about tattoos anymore. The vast majority of people do it now because it's stylish, not because their tattoo means anything to them. I think that unmarked skin has its own intrinsic beauty.

  81. Anon 31 March.
The fact that you are not willing to ask someone or that someone does not display the deeper meaning of their tat doesnt mean that the majority of tats are because of trends.
My two tattoos on my wrist mean more to me than anything but if you asked me what they were I would joke that it was just my liberal artsy ass colorings.

  82. I have a tattoo on my back left shoulder that says live.laugh.love. with a small heart by each word in my 3 favorite colors. And I have one on my right wrist that says hope. I love them both and do not regret t at all because the 4 words are words that I live by and believe that everyone should believe in them.

  83. I have two wrist tattoos, one on each wrist. On my left wrist I have the German word for 'trust' in blue ink and on my right, the Greek word for 'love' in red ink. I love both of them, as they are daily reminders of how to live; trust people until they prove unworthy of your trust, and to love everyone, because we can't see all the demons in their closet. The reason I chose the languages I did is because I am of German heritage and Greek Orthodox by choice, and this represents a marriage of the two cultures in my life.

  84. I have a snowflake between my shoulder blades because I am from New England and this way, wherever I am, i'll always remember where I came from. And I recently added scripture on each wrist, black with blue accent to match my snowflake. It says "Strength for Today" (left) "Hope for Tomorrow" (right). I love them and would never take them back. On a bad day it's my way of reminding myself that I am strong enough to survive this day and I can make the next day better.

  85. I have "hold your own" on my right wrist. it comes from a Jason Mraz song "details in the fabric" the whole song is just about being your own person fix what's broken and don't dwell just keep on going.

  86. My first tattoo is on the inside of my left wrist. It reads "Dance" with a teal heart outline in cursive print, because dance is my life. My third tattoo is also dance related: a stick figure ballerina on the inside of my left ankle.

My second tattoo is on the back of my right hip. An orange Leukemia ribbon is lacing through a half orange-half pink ribbon to created a pink Breast Cancer heart. My best friend died from Leukemia; my grandma is a Breast Cancer survivor, my aunt died from Breast Cancer, and my cousin is currently fighting for a second time.

I do not regret any of my tattoos, because they all mean so much to me and are tiny parts of my life permanently on my body, and I show them off proudly.

  89. I've just got a couple of initials on my wrist, framed by a feather and shadowing is used throughout. i love it. it's the only tattoo of mine that i see every day and i never get tired of it.

  90. i have a little candle in my ribcage, and it is just great because i can hide it with my bra. the one thing i do regret is not being a bit more specific with the artist, because i would have prefer it a bit smaller.

  91. I have a tattoo on my wrist. It's a word in ancient greek. It's kind of a talisman for me. I don't regret it. It's small and neat but pretty too.
It inspires me to want more.

  94. I have a little whale on the side of my left wrist. I've been supporting wildlife for as long as I can remember, and this little guy just reminds me to continue on. It's just a simple outline, but very well done and a good reminder to save the whales.

  96. I just recently got a wrist tattoo (my first tattoo) that says 'per aspera ad astra' which is Latin for through hardships to the stars. I honestly never thought I would get a tattoo because the idea of permanence scared me but, something about the quote seemed to fit, and I have no regrets. People often ask me what it means and I get excited to tell them the translation. I think the most important part of getting a tattoo is for it to be special to you. As long as it is, no other opinion should matter.

  97. The tattoo on my wrist says "love each day" in script, its part of a phrase i made up when i was in 6th grade "Live each breath, love each day." Its one of six tattoos i have and its my favorite of them all.

  98. I have an entire sleeve on my left arm, two on my ring finger, a piece on my left rib cage, my lower back and on my foot. I would suggest to anyone that wants to get a tattoo to post it up everywhere first, on your bathroom mirror, in your car, because I guarantee that what you think you want, will morph into something even better the longer you see it everywhere. Give it time... they are permanent and once its there, you are stuck with it. In saying that, I have "13" on my left wrist, and part of my sleeve and I'm going to get it removed and covered up. As far as PAIN of the wrist area, everyone's nerves in their body run different... a tattoo is a tattoo, short term pain for a lifetime of art work!

  100. I have a tattoo on my right wrist. One way it says Faith. But if you look at it upside down it says Hope. I have it so I can see Faith, to remind myself to have faith. Everyone else sees, Hope because when I keep my faith, others can see hope in me. I've had it since Dec 2010 and I couldn't be happier with it.

  101. I have a tattoo on the back of my neck of a dove with an olive branch. I love it. It reminds me of God and hope and that just because I can't see something (God) doesn't mean it's not there.

I'm also gonna get the word "Love" tattooed on the front part of my right hip. It'll be there to remind me that I love myself and my body is a temple... Not something I should cut up.

  102. i have a tribal looking butterfly on each wrist. purple on my left and a light blue color on my right

  103. I have 2 tattoos - one is a memorial tattoo on my left shoulder blade for my boyfriend of 5 years who passed away unexpectedly last year. It's of an angel crying over a little monument with his initials on it.

I have a tattoo on my right wrist that says "Isaiah 55:8-9", which was his favorite Bible verse. It's in a really pretty script.

I love both of my tattoos! They're extremely meaningful to me. I've gotten both positive and negative comments about them (the negatives are usually from complete strangers saying something like, "why on earth would you mark yourself like that?", and when I explain they feel like jerks... lol). I love being part of the "tattoo culture", as it were. Everyone's tattoos have a meaning and I love asking about them. I love when people ask me about mine.

  105. I know a girl who has a really lovely wrist tattoo. It's a little ribbon tied in a bow around her wrist, like a bracelet kind of...forget-me-not style. It's super pretty.

  107. My best friend has a wrist tattoo that says "Driven" in cursive. I have a tattoo of an ohm symbol in a lotus flower on the front of my right hip that I absolutely love. I don't have any regrets, but if I were to get the tattoo again I wouldn't get it on such a sensitive area.

  108. I have 11 tattoos, I have one on my wrist and it hurt a bit, but I love it, I love all my tattoos and don't regret any of them, top of the feet and directly on the spine hurt the most but pain is pleasure when it comes to tattoos and you only live once, why not enjoy the canvas you were given

  109. I have a wrist tattoo that I'm still in love with. Its a heart sitting on petals, and a few whispy swirly lines coming from the petals. I will never regret it because it will forever remind me of when I finally did something I wanted and didn't care what anyone would say. It might have been my artistic break through point!

  112. I find single word tattoos trite and meaningless. It's like they're trying to be deep and just failing miserably. Laughably so. However, I quite like the feather one and bird ones are alright.

  113. I have a breast cancer ribbon on my left shoulder, in honor of my Aunt Helen who lost her battle to Breast Cancer in 2006. I do not regret getting this tattoo, and I don't think I ever will. My grandmom, who does not like tattoos at all, even likes mine because it actually means something.

  114. To me, a tattoo is something that is meaningful to the person it is on, regardless of if anyone else understands or approves of it, it's there for a reason, whether logical or illogical. I have seen some tattoos that make me wonder "why would someone get that?" but then again, others could look at my tattoo and question the same thing. Here's one of my favorite quotes about tattoos that relates to every tattoo anyone has ever gotten:

"A tattoo is the mark of a soul. It can act as a window through which we see inside; or as a shield to protect us from those who cannot see past the surface."

Anyone putting down tattoos or a specific tattoo featured on here just simply doesn't understand what that person was going through when they got it, and that's fine. But, everyone else who sees the beauty in tattoos understands that every tattoo has importance in some way to it's wearer.

  115. I have lots of tattoos and am a tattoo artist. I also work often in the corporate world so I have to be mindful of where I place my art. I do have one on my wrist - it is an anchor in white ink and almost non-visable unless I point it out to people.

The thing I strongly encourage all my clients and friends to do with tattoos is not to rush. Find something you love, something that has meaning, something that speaks to you - get a picture or sketch of it and put it some place you'll always see it - on your washroom mirror, on your fridge door, on the wall next to your computer monitor, some place you'll always be looking at it - and leave it there for a long time - 6 months or more. See how much you like it or how much you get sick of it or how you'd like to change it. After time, if you love it then go get it inked for sure! That's the best way I've found to prevent regret.

  120. I have a very personal tattoo on my ankle. It's the methodist cross with the word "saved" on the side of the cross. It reminds me of the struggle I had with depression, and what literally saved my life. Most people look at it and think "Oh, you got saved in a Methodist church." but it's much deeper. the words are written sideways so I can read it while sitting, and always remember what I overcame.

  144. I have a triple infinity symbol on the inside of my right wrist - one for each of my three boys. I have only the one tattoo, I got it in my 40's, and I don't regret getting it at all. I do wish I had a more concrete design before I let the artist start. We agreed he would outline it to give it a little "pretty without being busy." I have never been truly satisfied with that one element and have been researching having the tat outlined in white ink. But, I love that I have it and the meaning of the tat is very personal.
